When the word “sustainability” is mentioned it normally means some sort of compromise. In the past, consumers have had to just accept some sort of lower quality if they make purchasing decisions with environmental impact in mind. Furthermore, if you haven’t compromised on quality, you may have to pay a premium price. When you choose a remanufactured laptop you will have neither of these issues.
Conscious consumerism is becoming a lifestyle now – not just a trendy fad. Accordingly we are now making better choices in every aspect of our lives, to make less of an impact of the environment. Reducing our carbon footprint is now essential for the health of the planet.
When we do research on how to make wiser choices, we are often exposed to a large amount of misinformation. Moreover we tend to stick with what we know instead of exploring new, more viable options. Here we explore the most common misconceptions about remanufactured laptops which are perpetuated on the internet.
1) Remanufactured laptops have questionable reliability and safety
This is simply not true! Our computers are upgraded and remanufactured using brand new parts where necessary. Our British-owned remanufacturer is internationally accredited with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 ratings. All models are chosen from leading brands like Dell, HP and Lenovo and are “enterprise grade”. Furthermore, there is a 2 year collect, repair and return limited warranty on all remanufactured laptops
2) Their performance is questionable and not nearly as good as new
When the laptops leave the factory they must conform to some of the highest quality standards in the world. Our suppliers guarantee that our remanufactured products can provide a general workplace performance that is 97% equal to the performance of a newly produced model.
3) Remanufactured laptops look worn and used
Wrong again. Not even the smallest dent or scratch will make it through the quality assurance control. The difference between remanufactured laptops and new models is undetectable. The entire process has the latest in technological innovation and precision. In fact, market-leading standards assure that each computer is remanufactured to look like they are brand new.
4) Remanufactured means the quality isn’t as good as new
False. More than 100 checks are performed and key components are actually upgraded. They are fitted with new screens, batteries, motherboards and keyboards. Each laptop goes through a stringent 5 hour certified remanufacturing process. (BS 8887, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Electronic Industry Citizenship, or EEIC standards.)
Once reassembled, the laptops are subjected to a thorough final check. Fully qualified technicians oversee ever step of the process in a state-of-the-art facility.
5) They are really just old computers which have been re-badged
This isn’t true at all. A lot more goes into remanufacturing a laptop that just replacing the badges. While the more basic refurbishment process allows for a more affordable product, remanufacturing is a big step up from that on every level. A remanufactured product is on average 2 to 3 years old, but will be reassembled into a new cosmetic and functional condition.
6) There isn’t a wide range of choice with regards to specifications and model
There are a lot more available than you’d expect. C2KIT offers a premium range of remanufactured laptops which include the HP Elitebook, Dell Latitude and the Lenovo ThinkPad. Every laptop has selected brand new parts and the Microsoft operating systems are fully licensed. Every laptop that we offer is network compliant, with energy saving features and built-in security, in an enterprise grade product.
7) They aren’t really that affordable or cheaper than new
You will be pleasantly surprised here. Our remanufactured laptops are incredibly good value for money. At C2KIT you can save between 50% to 70% on any reconditioned laptop compared to a new counterpart. Our new Business Rental option for established businesses makes it even more affordable.
8) The environmental benefits are minimal
You would be pleased to know how untrue that really is! Every year more than 160 million new latops are made worldwide. We genrate 6.2kg of electronic waste, or e-waste, in South Afrrica each year, per person. In other words, that’s a lot of landfill! The Department of Environmental Affairs estimates that we generate 360 000 tonnes of e-waste in South Africa annually.
The IT industry generates as much greenhouse gases as the airline industry. The widespread fires burning across the forests of South America and Asia, as well as the savannahs of Africa, we are now more aware than ever of the importance of reducing our carbon emissions in every possible way.
For every 1000 remanufactured laptops sold, 190 000 litres of water are saved and 1 200 tonnes of e-waste are prevented. In addition, and most importantly, 980 tonnes of CO2 emissions are either prevented or removed from the atmosphere.
9) Ageing IT equipment is less energy efficient
In a fast changing world we are constantly striving to be more energy efficient. This applies to all our remanufactured laptops too. Our remanufactured laptops are all Energy Star-approved. In actual fact, many of our products have a better power-saving performance than some of today’s latest computers.
10) The Microsoft software is not licensed for a new user
All of our laptops only have fully licensed Microsoft Software. Each remanufactured laptop has a pre-installed genuine Microsoft operating system, which comes together with a Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity. What’s more you will have full access to updates and enhanced features.
